Sometimes I think we don't give some religious people enough credit for being able to disagree respectfully. In my experience, some of them are quite interested in what non-believers have to say. Many of them are probably unaware of how many "nones" there are, living and working next to them.

Good for you, Emily, that you had the courage and eloquence to represent a different line of thought to these people, and good for Crosspoint for seeing the value in diverse viewpoints. Cheers!

Just like there are Environmentalists who are Christian Environmentalists but who don't identify as necessarily Christians in their efforts. There are tons of Atheists who do good things as people, not as Atheists. Bill and Melinda Gates are the most generous philanthropists in our world, they are also Atheists, but not identifying as Atheist philanthropists. Also on the question about why don't Atheists just kill and eat babies, besides from some fairy tale about things that are "written on our hearts", I'm sure most Christians remember not being Christians and they didn't kill people at will because we are social animals and we endeavor to get along. If anything is written on our hearts, it is evolution that wrote it there.

My children are allowed minimal contact with me and actually spew hate towards me outta there mouth. I had to let there father take them because when I left I became homeless... my family wouldn't help or my closest friends. I became extremely suicidal and almost succeded. I now have two of my aeven children and I wonder what we can do to educate the masses on the JWs.

Glad to know atheists are getting this amazing opportunity. I think this goes to show than many in the religious community are slowly starting to realize that they can't keep up the wall that effectively shields them from the reality of the world which they inhabit as well. I'm curious, though, isn't the religious community at large concerned that inviting an atheist viewpoint will just deepen the cracks in their already faulty facade?

Great job guys! I did something similar about a year ago at an interfaith alliance event. They changed the charter of the local chapter of the interfaith alliance to include "groups with no faith", and I was invited to present my views on atheism.

I know that I stopped believing in Christianity in August 2003. I also remember that my dad threw my mom against the kitchen wall in broad daylight around that time (no hospital, no cops, separated a year later, divorced within a year after that). I don't remember if the latter event caused the former, I was 13 then.

No, I didn't go straight to atheism (in fact, I still won't completely deny the possibility of a creator). I went to a pagan faith of my own creation (drawn from several other religions), before moving towards theism, then apatheism.

It gets even more ridiculous. They aren't allowed to do autologous transfusions (donate blood to yourself), but they allow dialysis and heart-lung-machines, which remove blood, clean or oxygenate it and then re-infuse it. And they allow to remove blood from an open wound during an operation, clean and return it.

Yes, the military is a huge no-no for the JW's. Also, celebrating holidays. The list of potential offenses is too long...and ridiculous.

My cousin has been shunned by my aunt's family for joining the Marines. They won't talk to him, or even about him with anyone else. Really sad situation.
