The Pro-Life False Premise

“Republicans, get out of my vagina.” This a great slogan for the recent zeitgeist against the medically invasive bills targeting women’s rights that have been flooding in, the past few years. The mere idea of an abortion debate is a dangerous and pervasive platform. Discussing the beginning of life in tandem with abortion is equivalent to planning women’s oppression. I don’t say this lightly.
The moment that one utters the words, “I think abortion should be illegal.” that very same person is consciously pushing for a change in the personal control a woman has over her own medical choices. That a single person would have a say about the process of abortion, means that individual would have a say in, and consequently have control over, the birthing process of all women. This is ludicrous. This idea, so powerful and so subtle in it’s presentation, becomes pervasive in thought and eventually apart of our politics. It should never have gotten this far.
To put it simply: The false premise on the side of the pro-lifer is, “My views on how women should go about their pregnancy matter.”
